Men's Wellbeing
Course Introduction
One in five men over 50 say they have no close friends. Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50. Most of the prison population is male. Most of the homeless population is male. Men are more likely to become addicted to alcohol or drugs than women. These are just some of the difficult statistics concerning men in the 21st century.
Male allyship is a skill and quality which is more important now than ever to foster. Relationships between men are often connected through work, sports, and other external “things”. Men can suffer loneliness, isolation and depression for lack of real connection with other men. Men are also very good at masking – saying they’re fine convincingly, even when not. The antidote is allyship – fostering a sense of brotherhood between men as well as bolstering men’s authentic relationships with women.
