Anti-Harassment Workshop
for HR teams

Course Introduction

The dawn of the Worker Protection Act has placed new requirements on HR teams to put in place measures to prevent workplace harassment. HR teams are alive to the importance of creating a safe, respectful, fair and inclusive working environment and adept at managing complaints. But meeting the preventative duty requires a new approach, and places additional pressures and expectations on HR teams. It’s crucial that HR teams are equipped to identify risk areas and to incorporate anti-harassment strategies across both policy and practice.

This workshop acknowledges the challenging and highly sensitive issues HR practitioners can be confronted with through the course of their work. Leading grievance processes and supporting employees who report instances of harassment can bring immense challenges. For many HR practitioners, such situations may be triggering, or could lead to vicarious trauma.

This workshop is relevant to HR practitioners at all levels, and complements Inclusive Group’s all-colleague and leader and manager anti-harassment workshops. Please note, this workshop focuses on UK employment legislation and is most suitable to UK audiences.

Key Objectives

Participants will:

  • Understand relevant employment legislation including the Equality Act 2010 and the Worker Protection Act 2023;

  • Understand how harassment and sexual harassment and victimisation show up in the workplace, including a clear summary of the different forms of harassment;

  • Consider the role of HR in meeting the preventative duty and what this means at an individual practitioner level;

  • Discuss strategies to identify risk areas, where additional intervention is required;

  • Understand the barriers to speaking up experienced by staff and discuss strategies to overcome the issues;

  • Consider the realities and challenges of managing complaints of workplace harassment, particularly in relation to triggers and vicarious trauma. Identify steps to prioritise self-care and peer-support.
